Nissan Magnite Offers Less Power, Mileage Than Sonet, Venue

Nissan Magnite 1.0 NA MT returns 20kmpl, 1.0 Turbo MT and 1.0 Turbo CVT offers 18.75kmpl and 17.7kmpl respectively

The much-awaited Nissan Magnite sub-4 meter SUV will be offered with two 1.0-litre petrol engine options. To be launched in the next few days, the new Magnite will offer less power and more mileage than its direct rivals including the Kia Sonet and the Hyundai Venue.

Magnite Engine Options

This sub-4 meter SUV will be offered with a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine in naturally-aspirated and turbocharged versions. The 3-cylinder NA engine is capable of producing 72bhp of power and 96Nm of torque, and will only be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Nissan Magnite Variants

The 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine will churns out 99bhp of power and 160Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic. With automatic gearbox, the peak torque drop to 152Nm.

Its direct rivals – the Kia Sonet and the Hyundai Venue are available with 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 118bhp of power and 175Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission) and a 7-speed DCT (Dual-Clutch Automatic Transmission).

Nissan Magnite Mileage

The 1.0-litre turbocharged Magnite with manual transmission is claimed to return an ARAI certified fuel economy of 20kmpl. On the other hand, the Turbo-CVT offers 17.7kmpl. The 1.0L NA version returns 18.75kmpl.

Nissan Magnite Features

The Kia Sonet’s 1.0L iMT returns 18.2kmpl and DCT delivers 18.3kmpl. Similarly, the Hyundai Venue’s 1.0L MT and 1.0L iMT delivers 18.1kmpl and DCT version returns 18kmpl. Clearly, the Magnite has an advantage of manual gearbox option over the Venue and the Sonet. However, the automatic version offers slightly lesser fuel economy compared to the Venue/Sonet turbo automatic.

Other Details

In terms of proportions, the Magnite is 3,998mm long, 1,758mm wide and 1,572mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,500mm. The SUV is the lightest SUV in its category. The Magnite 1.0 naturally-aspirated version weighs 939kg, while the 1.0L MT and 1.0L turbo-CVT weighs 1,014kg and 1,039kg respectively. It comes with a fuel tank of 40-litres capacity. It rides on 16-inch wheels wrapped in 195/60 section tyres.

Nissan Magnite Boot space

The Nissan Magnite is based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-A modular platform, which also underpins the Renault Triber and the upcoming Renault Kiger. It will be offered in three trim levels – XE, XL and XV – and in total of 20 variants.

In terms of features, the SUV gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 360 degree around view monitor, push-button start, LED bi-projector headlamps, LED DRLs, LED fog lamps, cruise control, tire pressure monitor, air purifier, wireless charger, ambient lighting and others.

Nissan Magnite Expected Price

If reports are to be believed, the Magnite will be the most affordable SUV in its segment. The new model is rumoured to be priced as low as Rs 5.25 lakh for the base NA petrol manual option. In fact, the CVT version could be priced around Rs 6 lakh. The top-spec model is expected to be priced around Rs 7.5 to 8 lakh.
