2 New Citroen SUVs Launching In India In 2021

Groupe PSA will officially launch its first product in the Indian market in 2021. The company will introduce the Citroen C5 Aircross 5-seater premium SUV in the first quarter of 2021. It will be a completely built-up unit and is expected to cost around Rs 25-30 lakh.

Citroen has started testing the locally developed products in the country. The French automaker will introduce an all-new sub-4 meter SUV, codenamed C21 in the second half of 2021. The new sub-4 meter SUV will be based on the Groupe PSA CMP (EMP1) platform. This common modular platform currently underpins several global products from Groupe PSA, including the popular Peugeot 208.

The new CMP platform is compatible with different bodystyles including hatchback, sedan and SUV. This platform can also accommodate different types of engines such as petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric. In fact, Peugeot is already selling the e-208 electric hatchback in select international markets. This platform will also help Citroen to introduce electric cars in the Indian market.

The Citroen C21 will rival the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and others in the highly competitive sub-4 meter SUV segment.  It is likely to be offered with multiple engine options including 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.2L turbocharged petrol and a 130bhp, 1.5L diesel. A new media report claims that the new compact SUV will be equipped with a flex-fuel system. This system is compatible to feature a 1.2-litre petrol engine with ethanol blends starting from 27% to entirely on the biofuel.

The C5 Aircross will be offered in a single diesel engine option with automatic gearbox. It will be powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine that’s good enough for 180bhp. In terms of proportions, the new SUV is 4,500mm long, 1,840mm wide and 1,670mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,730mm. It is 25mm longer and 10mm wider than the Tucson. In fact, the SUV’s wheelbase is 60mm longer than its Korean counterpart. The SUV offers a ground clearance of 230mm.

The SUV will be equipped with high-end features like an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment, a 12.3-inch digital instrument console, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a 360 degree camera, driver assistance and connectivity features, multiple airbags, hill start and descent assist, electronic parking brake, adaptive cruise control, cross traffic detection and others.
