Next-gen Toyota Fortuner & Ford Endeavour To Debut In 2022

American SUV maker, Jeep is all set to introduce a new 7-seater SUV based on the Compass platform in 2021. The new model will be launched in India to rival the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour. Both these SUVs are 5 years old and will need comprehensive makeover to retain their market share.

Toyota Motor Corporation chief engineer, Yoshiki Konishi has confirmed that the next-gen Toyota Fortuner is currently under development. This model will be launched in the Indian market in 2022. On the other hand, Australian media reports that Ford will launch the next-gen Endeavour (Everest) in 2022.

The next-gen Toyota Fortuner will be based on the modified version of the ladder-frame chassis. The SUV will receive significant design and interior changes. Adding to it, the SUV is reportedly to receive ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System), which is currently available on its new rival – MG Gloster. The ADAS features include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic parking assist, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking and blind spot detection.

The SUV will also receive EPS (electric power steering) and electronically controlled VSC (vehicle stability control) technology. The new Fortuner will also receive major changes under the hood, which includes new diesel-hybrid powertrain.

Media reports claim that the next-gen Ford Endeavour will be offered with 3 engine options –  two diesel and a new petrol plug-in hybrid. Adding to it, the SUV will also receive a new off-road focused Wildtrack X variant. It will be offered with a 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 210bhp of power and 500Nm of torque. There will be a new 3.0-litre turbocharged 6-cylinder diesel engine in the top-spec model. This engine will offer 250bhp of power and 600Nm of torque.

The SUV will also receive a new 2.3-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine with a plug-in hybrid system, which is likely to produce around 270bhp and 680Nm of torque. The new model is likely to get the brand’s SYNC4 infotainment system with a new 12.8-inch vertical infotainment screen. This system will be compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
