The long-awaited Tata Punch subcompact SUV has finally been launched in the country. Priced between Rs 5.49 lakh and Rs 9.09 lakh, the new Punch sits between the Tiago and the Altroz/Nexon in Tata’s line-up. Interested buyers can book the small SUV online or via authorised Tata dealership by paying a token amount of Rs 21,000.
Tata Punch Prices
The new model is offered in 4 trim levels – Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative. The small SUV is priced at Rs 5.49 lakh for the base model and Rs 9.09 lakh for the top-end variant. Tata also offers Rhythm and Dazzle customisation options with the Punch – priced at Rs 35,000 and Rs 45,000 respectively. The optional iRA connected car tech is available with the top-spec model at an additional cost of Rs 30,000. Prices are introductory and will be valid up to December 31, 2021.
Safest Made-in-India Car
The new Punch has received a five star rating in global NCAP crash test. It received 5 stars for adult protection and four stars for child occupant protection in Global NCAP’s latest #SaferCarsForIndia crash tests. The small SUV scored 16.45 points out of a maximum of 17 for adult protection. It scored 40.89 points out of a maximum of 49 points in child safety. In fact, the new Punch is the safest made-in-India car as per Global NCAP.
Tata Punch Engine Specifications
Powering the new subcompact SUV is a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which also powers the Altroz, Tigor and the Tiago. This engine is capable of producing 85bhp of power at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 113Nm at 3,300rpm. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). It offers two driving modes – Eco and City. The AMT version comes with segment-first ‘Traction-Pro Mode’ which improves driving on low traction surfaces. It also gets cruise control and idle start stop system.
Tata Punch Rivals
The new Tata Punch subcompact SUV rivals the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger and the B-segment hatchbacks including the Swift and the Grand i10 Nios. In fact, Citroen will introduce the C3 hatchback with crossover looks in early 2022 to rival the B-segment cars and small SUVs.

In terms of proportions, the new Punch is 3,827mm long, 1,742mm wide and 1,615mm tall (Without Mirrors), and has a wheelbase of 2,445mm. The SUV offers a boot space of 366-litres. The new model has segment’s best ground clearance of 190mm. It also offers a water wading capacity of 370mm.
The new Tata small SUV is offered in 7 colour options, namely, Calypso Red, Orcus White, Daytona Grey, Meteor Bronze, Atomic Orange, Tornado Blue and Tropical Mist.
