New Yamaha Premium Bikes (150-250cc), Scooters (125cc), EVs For India

Yamaha Motor Company is planning to expand its premium motorcycle and scooter portfolio in the next 5 years. The Japanese two-wheeler aims to increase its market share to 8.7% from 3.7%% by 2025. Speaking to a media publication, Motofumi Shitara, Chairman, Yamaha Motor Group India, has revealed that the majority of two-wheeler sales comes from up to 125cc commuter segment. The company believes that buyers of this segment aspire for a premium product featuring sporty design language and better performance. That means, customers will eventually shift to the 150cc segment. Therefore, Yamaha aims to strengthen its 125cc scooter and 150cc-250cc motorcycle model lineup to target young age buyers.

The Japanese two-wheeler maker has also been working on a new electric vehicle platform with Gogoro from the past two years. The new architecture based electric bikes and scooters will be introduced in the Indian and global markets. In fact, the company has already finalized the technology and expertise to develop and manufacture EV models. It’s currently analyzing different parameters such as infrastructure, performance and pricing before introducing new models in the country.

Recently, the company unveiled the Yamaha Fascino 125 Hybrid and Ray ZR 125 Hybrid scooters. Both models have been boosted with hybrid power assist technology along with some extra features. The updated 125cc fuel-injected hybrid engine will make power worth 8.6bhp and 10.3Nm of torque. It’s claimed to be 16% more fuel efficient than the existing motor.

Talking about the features, the new Yamaha hybrid scooters get full LED headlamp with DRLs and LED taillamp. The list also includes digital instrument cluster with side stand engine cut off and an optional Bluetooth connectivity and a USB charger. The Yamaha Fascino hybrid comes with a new Matt Black paint scheme and golden wheels. The Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer also introduced the new Yamaha FZ-X retro-styled motorcycle at Rs 1.17 lakh (ex-showroom).
