Skoda is all set to launch the new Slavia mid-sized sedan on March 28, 2022. Volkswagen has also confirmed that its upcoming mid-sized sedan will be called the Virtus, which is set to make global debut on March 8. The company has also teased the top-spec GT Line variant; revealing the exterior design highlights.
The top-of-the-line Volkswagen Virtus GT variant will come with a sporty design elements, which will differentiate it from the standard car. This is the same strategy that is adopted for the Taigun SUV. The Virtus GT comes with some chrome enhancements, GT badges and newly styled alloy wheels.
The top-spec Volkswagen Virtus GT will be powered by a 1.5-litre TSI 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine. Both manual and automatic versions will be on offer. Volkswagen Virtus is already on sale in the South American markets since 2018. In India, VW will launch the facelifted Virtus that will make a global debut on March 8. The model will first go on sale in India by May 2022.
The Volkswagen Virtus sedan is based on the heavily localised MQB AO IN platform that also underpins the Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the Slavia. It will replace the ageing Vento sedan. The Virtus is likely to mesure similar to the global-spec Virtus, which is 4,482mm long, 1,751mm wide and 1,472mm tall. It is 92mm longer, 52mm wider and 5mm taller than the Vento. The sedan rides on 2,651mm wheelbase, which is again 98mm longer than the Vento’s 2,553mm.
The new Volkswagen Virtus facelift is likely to come with revised design elements. It comes with revised bumpers, new grille, headlamps and new alloy wheels along with new interior features. The sedan is likely to get a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument console, wireless phone charging, connected car technology, an electric sunroof, automatic headlamps & wipers, a TPMS, six airbags and others.
The new VW Virtus will share the engine options with the Skoda Slavia. The GT variant is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre TSI engine that churns out 147bhp and 250Nm of torque. The standard variant will come with a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 113bhp and 178Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque convertor automatic with 1.0L and a 7-speed DSG automatic with 1.5L.
