The much-awaited Volkswagen mid-sized sedan will make its global debut in the country on March 8, 2022. The new model will be the updated Virtus sedan, which will also go on sale in international markets. The new VW Virtus sedan is expected to be launched in the country by May 2022.
The new Volkswagen mid-sized sedan will be based on MQB AO IN platform that underpins the Taigun and the soon-to-be-launched Skoda Slavia. The new model will come as a replacement to the Vento sedan, which has recently been discontinued from the market. The new VW Virtus will rival the likes of the Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Maruti Ciaz and the upcoming Skoda Slavia.
Similar to the Taigun, the new Virtus is likely to be offered in standard and GT line trims. The GT line will come with sportier design elements and a more powerful 1.5L turbo petrol engine. The sedan will be offered with two engine options – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol. While the former is good for 115bhp of power and 175Nm of torque, the later is good for 148bhp of power and 250Nm of torque.
A six-speed manual gearbox driving the power to the front wheels will come as standard. The other transmission options will include a 6-speed torque convertor automatic with 1.0L petrol and a 7-speed DSG automatic with 1.5L engine.
The upcoming Volkswagen Virtus will share the interior and features with the Taigun mid-sized SUV. It will come with features like an electric sunroof, a large touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car tech, a digital instrument console, automatic AC, LED projector headlamps, LED tail-lights and others. The sedan will offer multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill-launch assist and other safety features.
