Toyota has released the first teaser image of the upcoming new Grand Highlander three-row SUV for the American markets. The carmaker has confirmed that the model will make its debut on 8th February at the 2023 Chicago Auto Show. The company says that the new Toyota Grand Highlander will be the “perfect addition” to the Toyota product portfolio and it will bridge the gap between the standard Highlander and the full-sized Sequoia.
The teaser image shows its rear profile featuring two-strip taillamps, a newly-designed tailgate and “Grand Highlander” nameplate. It’s the higher Platinum trim that will come with the “Hybrid Max” powertrain. The powertrain setup of the new Toyota SUV will include a 2.4L, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine and an electric motor at the front for better torque production. The combined power and torque outputs will stand at 340bhp and 542Nm respectively. Transmission duties will be carried out by a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Compared to the Highlander, the new Toyota Grand Highlander will be bigger and have crossover-ish handling dynamics. The spy images reveal that that the SUV will carry boxy stance at the front. The increased length and stretched wheelbase will improve third-row space without impacting its boot space. The rear overhang appears bigger hinting at increased storage space. Interior details of the new Toyota SUV are still under the wraps.
Toyota’s India Plan
In India, the Japanese automaker is gearing up to launch the new Toyota Innova Hycross in January. It will be the brand’s first model in India to get Toyota Safety Sense suite of ADAS (advanced driver assistance system). The MPV will be made available with the 172bhp, 2.0L naturally aspirated petrol and 186bhp, 2.0L strong hybrid powertrains. The model lineup will include G, GX, VX, ZX and ZX (O) trims that will be offered with 7 and 8-seats configuration options.
