Citroen C3 CNG Launching Soon; Tata Tiago CNG Rival

Citroen C3, the first mass-market offering from the French automaker in India, is currently available within the price range of Rs 5.88 lakh – Rs 8.15 lakh (all, ex-showroom). The model lineup includes three variants, namely, 1.0L Live, 1.0L Feel and 1.0L turbo-petrol Feel. It can be had with either a 1.2L, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol or a 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. While the former makes 82bhp with 115Nm, the latter delivers 110bhp with 190Nm. Both motors are available with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The company will soon expand the C3 hatchback model lineup with the new CNG variants. The model is currently under the testing phase and is expected to hit roads in early months of 2023. The C3 CNG will be made available with the 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a factory-fitted CNG kit. Compared to the regular gasoline unit, the power and torque figures of the Citroen C3 CNG will be slightly lower.

The Citroen C3 CNG will be positioned against the newly-launched Tata Tiago CNG that costs between Rs 6.09 lakh – Rs 7.64 lakh. It will also compete against the upcoming Tata Puch CNG.

Reports suggest that the French automaker will introduce the C3 with a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox in the second half of 2023. The unit will be sourced from Aisin. If it happens, the Citroen hatchback will be the first vehicle in its segment to come with the torque convertor automatic transmission.

Besides the CNG and automatic variants, the company will roll out the electric iteration of the Citroen C3. The model is likely to witness a market launch sometime next year. It could be offered with a 50kWh battery pack and electric motor making 136PS and 260Nm. The same setup does duty in the global-spec Peugeot e-208. The carmaker might also offer the electric hatchback with multiple battery size options.
