The November 2022 sales report reveals that SUVs are growing rapidly in our market. In fact, more than 11 SUVs feature in the list of top 25 selling cars last month. The Tata Nexon was the best-selling SUV in our market. In the mid-sized SUV category, the Mahindra XUV700 retains the pole position by beating the likes of Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Harrier/Safari, MG Hector and others.

Mahindra has sold 5,701 units of the XUV700 in November 2022 as against 3,207 units in the same month last year, reporting a year-on-year sales growth of 92 per cent. The Hyundai Alcazar was the second best-selling mid-sized SUV in November with 2,566 units sold. Interestingly, the XUV700 manages to beat the Tata Harrier and Safari combined in November 2022. The combined sales of the Tata Harrier and Safari stood at 3556 units, which is significantly lower than the Mahindra XUV700’s total sales of 5,701 units.
Tata Motors sold 2,119 units and 1,437 units of the Harrier and Safari respectively in November 2022. On the other hand, MG Motors sold 1,773 units of the Hector SUV in November 2022. For people not in the know, Tata Motors will soon give a mid-life upgrade to Harrier & Safari. Both SUVs are expected to receive design changes and more feature-loaded cabin. Moreover, the new Harrier & Safari will also receive ADAS tech which is missing in the current models.
Mahindra has stated that it will start increasing its production to meet the rising demand for SUVs in the market. The company is aiming to produce 49,000 SUVs per month from current 28,000 by the end of 2023. The XUV700 is available in 5 and 7-seat layouts and rivals the Tata Harrier, Safari, MG Hector and the Hyundai Alcazar. It is available in two engine options – a 200bhp, 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo petrol and a 2.2L turbo mHawk diesel engine. The diesel engine offers two states of tune – 155bhp with 360Nm (for the entry-level variants) and 185bhp with 420Nm (MT)/450 (AT) (for the higher trims). Both manual and automatic gearboxes are on offer.
