New Tata Safari Vs Rivals – Price Comparison

Tata Motors has finally revived its iconic Safari brand in the Indian market. The carmaker has introduced the new Tata Safari 2021 with modern design, premium interior and new diesel engine. It’s the bigger and premium version of the Harrier that was showcased as the Gravitas concept at the last year’s Auto Expo.

The SUV model lineup is available in 11 variants spread across 6 trims – XE, XM, XT, XT+, XZ and XZ+. The Safari’s base model has been priced at Rs 14.69 lakh and the top-end Adventure Persona Edition is offered at Rs 21.45 lakh. All prices are introductory, ex-showroom Delhi.

In this price range, the new Tata Safari 2021 goes head-to-head against the MG Hector Plus and Mahindra XUV500. The new Tata flagship SUV shares its engine with the Harrier – i.e. 170bhp, 2.2L Kryotec, while the Hector Plus comes with 143bhp, 1.5L turbo petrol and 170bhp, 2.0L diesel engines and XUV500 uses 153bhp, 2.2L mHawk diesel motor.

Here’s a brief price comparison of the 2021 Tata Safari and its arch rivals – Hector Plus (diesel) and XUV500.

– As mentioned above, the Safari has been offered in an introductory price range of Rs 14.69 lakh – Rs 21.45 lakh. The lineup includes four automatic variants – XM, XZ XZ+ and Adventure Persona – priced at Rs 17.25 lakh, Rs 20.40 lakh, Rs 21.25 lakh and Rs 21.45 lakh respectively.

New Tata Safari Engine

– The MG Hector Plus diesel prices start at Rs 16 lakh (for the Super MT 6-seater variant) and go up to Rs 18.33 lakh (for the Select MT 7-seater variant). The SUV’s diesel models are available with 6-speed manual gearbox only.

– The Mahindra XUV500 comes in the price range of Rs 13.83 lakh – Rs 19.56 lakh. There are three automatic variants – W7, W9 and W11 (O) – which are priced at Rs 16.33 lakh, Rs 18.04 lakh and Rs 19.56 lakh respectively.

– While the new Tata Safari entry-level variant is Rs 1.31 lakh cheaper than the base Hector Plus, its Rs 86,000 pricier than the entry-level W5 XUV500. However, the top-end XZ+ and Adventure Edition of Safari are more expensive than both its rivals’ top-end variants.

– Prices of the new Safari automatic variants are much higher than the Mahindra XUV500 automatic.
