New Tata Altroz Gearbox Failed Within 110 KMs, Claims Owner

An unfortunate experience was encountered by Ranjeet Soni, a resident of Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, who took great pride in his newly acquired Tata Altroz. Soni’s journey with his beloved Tata Altroz took an unexpected turn just 110 kilometers into his ownership. He found himself entangled in what could only be described as a vehicular nightmare, a situation that he likened to having acquired a lemon rather than the highly-regarded Tata Altroz. The culprit? A malfunctioning manual gearbox, a critical component of his cherished automobile.

The Real Issue

This ill-fated Tata Altroz was purchased in Lucknow, a journey of 120 kilometers from Soni’s hometown of Gonda. Unfortunately, within the first moments of his drive back home, Soni encountered gearbox issues that rendered his brand-new car virtually inoperable. In a disheartening twist of fate, Soni found himself grappling with a vehicle that refused to cooperate.

Soni went to great lengths to showcase the extent of his predicament in a video posted on YouTube by Prateek Singh. In this visual account, we witness Soni’s futile attempts to engage gears within the manual gearbox. He maneuvers the gear selector, alternating between left slots (1st and 2nd gear) and right slots (5th gear and Reverse). However, each attempt results in the gear selector reverting to the center column, inexplicably choosing either 3rd or 4th gear. In essence, Mr. Soni’s ability to shift into reverse is compromised, as it stubbornly defaults to 4th gear. Likewise, when attempting to engage 1st gear, it inexplicably defaults to 3rd gear. Such a situation forced Soni to manually push the car in reverse, a far cry from the convenience one expects from automobile ownership. Read: 3 New Tata SUVs Launching Soon – What to Expect?

Soni, in his justified frustration, squarely places the blame on the Tata Motors dealership in Lucknow, the very place where he entrusted his faith and resources to acquire the Altroz. He expressed profound disappointment at encountering such substantial problems within the initial hours of ownership, with his mind understandably filled with uncertainty about the future of his vehicle ownership.

Since it was the brand new model, it raises questions about the assembly process, suggesting that improper assembly may be the root cause of these troubles. Such issues serve as a disconcerting blemish on Tata Motors’ reputation, despite their renowned reputation and being the third top carmakers of the country.
