With aim to double its market share in the SUV segment, Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch 5 new models in the next 2-3 years. The lineup will include the new-generation Maruti Brezza, a mid-size SUV, Baleno-based crossover, 5-door Jimny and a new 7-seater SUV. According to a fresh media report, the upcoming Maruti small crossover might make its debut at the 2023 Auto Expo that slated to happen in the second week of January.
Codenamed YTB, the crossover will be based on the Baleno hatchback sharing its design elements, features and engine its hatchback sibling. As of now, details of the new Maruti crossover are still under the wraps. Though, we expect some of its design elements could be inspired from the Futuro-E concept that broke cover at the 2020 Auto Expo.
It’s likely to carry a blacked-out grille with chrome surrounding, a beefy front bumper featuring blacked-out air da, a faux skid plate and LED headlamps with integrated DRLs at the front end. The side profile could be adorned by pronounced wheel arches, alloy wheels, roof rails and black cladding all around the body. The new Maruti Baleno Cross is likely to have a sloping Coupe-like roofline.
Maruti Suzuki might equip its new Baleno-based crossover with some advanced goodies such as a touchscreen infotainment system, Head-Up Display, connected car tech via Suzuki telematics, a 360 degree camera, rain sensing wipers, cruise control, 6 airbags, electronic stability program, hill assist and more.
It would be quite early to comment on its powertrain. The new Maruti small crossover is likely to be offered with a 1.2L K12N naturally aspirated petrol engine with the 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options. The gasoline unit makes a top power of 89bhp and 113Nm of torque.
