Maruti Suzuki is preparing a wide range of new SUVs including the new Brezza, a compact coupe SUV, LWB Jimny and a new mid-sized SUV for the Indian market. The mid-sized SUV will be jointly developed by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota. On the other hand, Jeep will launch the facelifted Compass Trailhawk, new 7-seater Meridian SUV, locally assembled Grand Cherokee and an all-new sub-4 meter SUV.
New Maruti Brezza – Launch By April 2022
The new Maruti Brezza has been spotted multiple times during its test rounds. In fact, clear exterior and interior pictures of the compact SUV has already been leaked on the Internet. If reports are to be believed, the new Brezza will be launched by April 2022.
The new Brezza will be based on the existing platform; however, it will have significantly different design elements. The SUV will have a new front fascia with a new grille, new bumper and headlamps with LED DRLs. At the back, the SUV will have newly designed tailgate, new bumper and a completely different LED tail-lights.
Biggest change will be made inside the cabin, as it will have all-new design layout and better quality material along with improved fit & finish. The SUV will also receive a bigger 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The sub-4 meter SUV will be equipped with a eSIM based connectivity features, factory-fitted sunroof, wireless phone charging, paddle shifters, cruise control and new climate control.
It will be powered by a 104bhp, 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with a mild hybrid system. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a new 6-speed automatic. The SUV will also receive a CNG version, which is likely to share the CNG unit with the Ertiga. The same 1.5L engine will offer 92bhp and 122Nm of torque, and is likely to return over 26km/kg of efficiency.
New Jeep Meridian – Launch By June 2022
The new Meridian is basically a 3-row SUV based on the Compass platform. It will be offered in 6 and 7-seat layouts with former having captain seats in the second row. Production of the SUV is likely to commence by April 2022 at FCA’s Ranjangaon facility. It is around 364mm longer, 41mm wider and 42mm taller than the Compass. In fact, the wheelbase has been increased by 158mm. It 4,769mm long, 1,859mm wide and 1,682mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,794mm.
The new Meridian is more premium and offers better fit & finish. The SUV gets a 10.21-inch all-digital instrument console and a large 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The infotainment system will be compatible with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
It will be powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, which is likely to receive a 48V mild hybrid system. This engine could be tuned to offer around 200bhp of power, and will be paired to a 9-speed automatic gearbox with AWD system.
