New Honda Car Coming Tomorrow – New SUV or City Facelift?

Japanese automaker, Honda is struggling to regain its lost market share in the Indian market. The company sold less than 1 lakh cars in last CY 2022 and has a market share of around 2.5 per cent. In fact, the brand will soon discontinue the slow-selling Jazz, WR-V, Amaze diesel and 4th gen City sedan due to new BS6 phase 2 emission norms from April 2023. After this, Honda will only have Amaze petrol, 5th gen City petrol and City hybrid on sale in our market.

Honda has already confirmed that it will introduce an all-new SUV in the country in 2023. It will be a midsize SUV and will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, MG Astor, VW Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq. Adding to it, the company is also testing the updated City sedan which is likely to arrive in near future.

It seems like Honda is ready to introduce a new car in the Indian market on January 9. The company has posted a picture on its social media platform, stating “Watch This Space For Something New – 09/01/23”. Not much has been revealed by the company on the new product. Honda could reveal the design sketch or a concept image previewing its future SUV for the country.

The new Honda SUV is reportedly to be based on the new Amaze platform. It is likely to measure around 4.3 meters in length. Previous reports claim that Honda could follow Hyundai’s strategy, and a 7-seater version of this SUV is also likely to arrive at a later stage. The new SUV will share the engine options with the City sedan. It is likely to get a 121bhp, 1.5L NA petrol and a 1.5-litre petrol with e:HEV (Honda’s strong hybrid tech).

On the flip side, the Honda City facelift will receive cosmetic design changes and upgraded interior. It is likely to receive new front and rear bumpers, new alloy wheels and revised grille. Inside the cabin, the sedan could get an updated touchscreen infotainment unit, new seat upholstery and more features.
