Hero MotoCorp has previously announced its plans to enter the premium bike and electric two-wheeler segments. The indigenous two-wheeler manufacturer is currently preparing to launch four new premium motorcycles, which will fall into two different categories: Core Premium and Upper Premium. While official details about these bikes are still undisclosed, reports suggest that the Core Premium division will include the fully-faired Karizma XMR and a naked streetfighter, while the Upper Premium division will feature a streetfighter. It’s worth noting that the Harley-Davidson X440 is the first model to be launched under the Upper Premium category.
The upcoming Hero premium bikes will have engine displacements ranging from 200cc to 400cc, posing a challenge to the dominance of Royal Enfield. Hero aims to establish over 100 dealerships by 2024 and will sell its premium bikes through a separate retail channel. Hero’s second premium offering will also be a 440cc motorcycle, likely to be introduced under a new nameplate rather than the rumored Xtreme brand.
Fresh details about the new Hero premium bike have been revealed by bikewale. The model is expected to make its official debut by March 2024 and will be available alongside the Harley-Davidson X440 in Hero’s new premium outlets. Positioned as a power roadster, the bike will incorporate design elements inspired by the popular Yamaha MT 01. Hero aims to target buyers who desire a muscular bike with a commanding riding position and comfortable ergonomics.
The new Hero premium bike will share its platform, components, and powertrain with the Harley-Davidson X440, but it will feature a different sub-frame and showcase Hero’s new design language. Powering the model will be the Harley-Davidson X440’s 440cc, single-cylinder, oil/air-cooled engine, delivering a claimed power output of 27bhp at 6,000rpm and 38Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. The gearbox will also be sourced from the new Harley, although it is expected to have different gear ratios. The price of the new Hero premium bike is estimated to be below Rs 2 lakh (ex-showroom).
