Harley-Davidson’s most affordable motorcycle is finally here! Priced at Rs 2.50 lakh (ex-showroom), the Harley-Davidson X440 goes head-to-head against the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Honda H’ness CB350. This bike is significant as it is the first Made-in-India motorcycle from Harley-Davidson, co-developed with Hero MotoCorp.
There are three variants for the X440 – Classic (wire-spoke wheels), Vivid (alloy wheels) and S (diamond-cut alloys). While the entry-level Classic variant has been priced at Rs 2.29 lakh, the Vivid variant costs Rs 2.49 lakh. The full-loaded S variant comes with a price tag of Rs 2.69 lakh. At the heart of the Harley-Davidson X440 is a 440cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine that’s claimed to deliver a maximum power of 27bhp at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 38Nmat 4,000rpm. That means, it is more powerful and torquey than the RE Classic 350 that’s good enough for 20bhp and 27Nm. The bike has a chain drive as we have seen in the Harley Pan America. Transmission duties are done by a 6-speed gearbox.
For performing suspension duties, the new Harley-Davidson X440 has 43mm USD (upside down) front forks and twin shock absorbers at the rear. The braking power comes from the 320mm front and rear disc brakes with Bybre’s brake calipers. It gets the dual-channel ABS (anti-lock braking system) as standard along with a side-stand engine cut-off function. The bike rides on the 18-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels with MRF tyres. The new Hero-Harley bike underpins the tubular trellis frame.
What’s unique about the Harley-Davidson X440? Well, the bike gets the mid-set footpegs and flat handlebar. Its retro-styled circular headlight with LED DRL bar running across the centre and a round speedo on the top, muscular fuel tank and wide handlebars look similar to the Harley-Davidson Nightster. It also comes with the circular indicators and mirrors and oval-shaped taillamp. It has blackened engine bay and exhaust that further enhance its sporty looks.
The new Harley-Davidson bike offers a single stepped seat along with the thick grab rails on either side. Some of its key features include a fully digital instrument cluster with TFT display, turn-by-turn navigation and Bluetooth connectivity (reserved for the top-end variant).
