Maruti Suzuki aims to expand its SUV product portfolio in coming years. The Indo-Japanese automaker has planned a range of new SUV including the new-generation Brezza, Baleno-based crossover, Jimny and a mid-size SUV. According to a fresh media report, the company will drop the ‘Vitara’ prefix from the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. The new model will be named Maruti Suzuki Brezza. The report further states that the Suzuki Vitara SUV, which is currently on sale in global markets, might come to India.
If it happens, the company will bring in the fifth-generation model of the Vitara SUV. Here, it will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, MG Astor and Skoda Kushaq. The new Suzuki Vitara is likely to witness significant changes inside and out along with the modified platform. The SUV will feature a taller radiator grille, sharply designed headlamps, pronounced waistline, bold shoulder creases and a rakish rear glass.
Compared to the current generation, the new model will be longer, wider and taller. The former measures 4175mm in length, 1775mm in width and 1610mm in height. Its wheelbase will be similar to the existing model. Inside the cabin, the new Suzuki Vitara will get a HD touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging, a fully digital instrument cluster with customizable layouts, ambient mood lighting, 4G LTE WiFi hotspot and electronic parking brake.
For power, the new Suzuki Vitara SUV will use the 1.4L K14D Boosterjet petrol engine coupled to SHVS mild hybrid system. The latter one includes a 48V battery pack with 8Ah of capacity and an electric motor delivering 13.6PS. The battery pack will have multiple engine assistance functions including idle stop, torque boost and torque fill control.
