We informed you earlier that Renault is working on the third generation Duster SUV, which will be based on new platform and will have rugged design and new powertrain. The second generation Duster is already on sale in select international markets; however, Renault is currently selling the first gen model in India.
French media reports that the third generation Renault/Dacia Duster is under development and will be introduced in 2024. The new model will bring important evolutions, both from an aesthetic and technical point of view. The second gen Duster is based on the BO Plaform, which will finally be discontinued. The new gen model will be based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-B modular platform, which currently underpins the new Logan and Sandero.
The new platform will give significant improvement in terms of safety and drivability, also gives an option to add electrification. The new gen Duster will be compatible with hybrid powertrain. The SUV will receive the new E-Tech type hybrid setup, which is the same used by Renault in the hybrid version of Clio and Captur sold in Europe.
Instead of the 1.6-litre petrol engine, the new Renault Duster will receive the 1.8-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. It will support Atkinson cycle (the same used by Toyota hybrid cars), which reduces power in favor of consumption. The report claims that the 1.8L engine will be more suitable for Duster’s size than the 1.6L engine. This system will also have two electric motors to form a complete hybrid set.
The new gen Renault Duster design will be inspired by the Bigster SUV concept, which has recently been unveiled. The SUV will have an aggressive looking full-width grille, and latest version of Dacia’s Y-shaped signature headlight. It will get LED lights, and squared off front bumper that houses a large central grille with a pair of vertical air intakes.
New Duster India Launch?
It is expected that the new gen Renault Duster could arrive in India before its debut in Europe. The first-gen Duster will be discontinued in our market by the end of this year. It is expected that the next-gen model could arrive in 2023.
