Renault Duster To Be Discontinued This Year; New Model Planned

A new media report claims that the current generation Renault Duster could be discontinued from the market before the end of this year. The report states that Renault Duster will be taken off the shelves, as the brand is aiming to reduce cost and increasing profitability. It is reported that the final batch of the Duster will roll off the assembly line in October 2021.

Renault will replace the current model with the next generation Duster; however, the exact launch timeline is yet to be announced. The French automaker is already selling the second generation Duster in international markets. In fact, the European-spec model has recently received a mid-life facelift.

Dacia Bigster Duster

In India, Renault will introduce the third generation Duster SUV. What’s more interesting is that the design of the next Duster has already been patented in our country. The next-gen  Duster will be based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-B platform that also underpins the new Bigster concept. The alliance had confirmed that the CMF-B platform will be used to make 7 products including two hatchbacks, two sedans and 3 SUVs. The SUV range is likely to include the next-gen Kicks, Duster and the Captur.

The new Duster styling will be inspired by the Dacia’s Bigster SUV concept. The vehicle will get aggressive looking front fascia, featuring full-width grille, and latest version of Dacia’s Y-shaped signature headlight. Design highlights will include LED headlamps, a squared-off front bumper that has a large central grille with a pair of vertical air intakes, and Y-shaped tail-lamps and clean tailgate.

The third-gen Duster SUV is expected to be introduced by 2022-23. It will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq and the upcoming SUVs like VW Taigun and MG Astor.  It will also join the current trend, as Renault is also developing a 7-seater SUV to be positioned above the 5-seater Duster.
