Next-gen Suzuki Swift To Launch In 2022 With Strong Hybrid Tech

Suzuki had introduced the current generation Swift hatchback in December 2016. The hatchback was launched in India in the early 2017, and is already 4 years old. Japanese automaker is reportedly working on the next-gen Swift hatchback, which is expected to make global debut by July 2022.

It is expected to be launched in the Indian market in the end of 2022; however, Maruti Suzuki is yet to make an official announcement on the same. A new media report claims that the next-gen Swift hatchback will be based on the advanced version of the HEARTECT platform. The revised platform should improve the overall stability, safety and handling of the Swift hatchback.

The Japanese-spec model will continue to offer the full hybrid system. The India-spec and new Swift for other international markets is likely to feature a mild hybrid system. However, this hybrid system could receive a stronger 48-volt setup instead of the current 12-volt setup. This will improve the overall performance as well as fuel efficiency.

The stronger mild hybrid system will also help the new Maruti Swift to compliant with upcoming stricter emission norms, which will be applicable from 2023. The hatchback is likely to receive the existing 1.2-litre K12 Dualjet petrol engine, which currently powers the existing model. In the current form, this engine produces 89bhp of power and 113Nm of torque. It is yet to be confirmed that the India-spec model will get the 48V system.

Suzuki is also working on the next generation Swift Sport, which is likely to feature the same K14D 1.4-litre Boosterjet engine coupled with a 48V mild-hybrid system. This engine produces 127bhp of power and 253Nm of torque. The battery pack is packed with a WA06B electric motor that offers an additional 14bhp and 53Nm of torque.

The report claims that the next-gen Suzuki Swift will be significantly lighter than the existing model. It will come equipped with a sports-specific tuned suspension system and high-performance dual-sensor brake support. The hatchback will be equipped with features like a large touchscreen display, split headlamp setup with LED DRLs, etc.
