New-gen Maruti Celerio Launch Delayed Again; Here’s Why

The long-awaited new-gen Maruti Celerio was planned to be launched in the month of September 2021. It seems like the launch of the new model has been delayed again. Media reports suggest that the launch of the new Celerio could take place in the end of this year. The reason behind this delay is the shortage of semiconductor chips.

Maruti Suzuki will see close to 60 percent cut in production in September due to shortage of semiconductors. “Owing to a supply constraint of electronic components due to the semiconductor shortage situation, the company is expecting an adverse impact on vehicle production in the month of September in both Haryana and its contract manufacturing company, Suzuki Motor Gujarat in Gujarat,” Maruti Suzuki (MSIL) said in an exchange filing.

The new-gen Maruti Celerio has already been spotted undisguised, revealing most of the design upgrades. The new model looks bigger than the existing model, featuring all-new styling. It will be based on the lightweight HEARTECT platform that also underpins the new S-Presso and the WagonR.

The second gen Celerio will come with a completely re-designed front fascia, featuring a revised oval grille with a honeycomb pattern. There is a chrome slat that runs cross the centre of the grille. It comes with a tall-boy stance, and is likely to offer practical cabin with more space in the second-row. It gets a big bulbous headlamps, and a new bumper that accommodates a small airdam and large round fog lamps.

The new Celerio will be offered with two engine options – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol. While the former is good for 69bhp and 91Nm of torque, the 1.2L engine churns out 82bhp of power and 113Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit. The company will also introduce the new Celerio with a factory-fitted CNG kit.
