MG ZS Electric SUV Records Over 700 Bookings In August 2021

With rising fuel prices, demand for electric cars and two-wheelers are at all-time high. MG Motor is currently selling the ZS Electric SUV in our market. This EV has received an overwhelming response from buyers, as MG sold over 500 units in August 2021. The company has also announced that the MG ZS electric has received over 700 bookings in the month of August, which is its highest-ever since launch.

MG Motor India has recorded 51 percent sales growth in August 2021 as compared to the same month last year. The company sold 3,400 units of Hector and Hector Plus, and 405 units of the Gloster in the month of August 2021.

2021 MG ZS Electric

The MG ZS Electric is offered in two variants – Excite and Exclusive – priced at Rs 21 lakh and Rs 23.8 lakh respectively. Compared to the original model, the 2021 MG ZS EV comes with an updated battery offering higher range, a bigger ground clearance and an upgraded iSmart system.

The MG ZS Electric SUV is equipped with a 44.5kWh battery that offers 143bhp and 353Nm of torque. It is equipped with a new high-tech battery, which is claimed to return an impressive 419kms range. The EV accelerates to 100kmph from zero in just 8.5 seconds. The MG ZS can be charged up to 80 percent in 50 minutes using a 50kW DC fast charger.  Using a standard AC charger, it takes 6 to 8 hours for a full charge.

New MG ZS Electric With Smaller Battery

A leaked document suggests that MG Motor India could be working on an affordable version of the ZS Electric SUV. It could be offered with a smaller 40 kWh battery pack. The new battery pack could replace the existing battery or could be offered as an optional. We believe that this could be the move to offer a more affordable variant, which could target the prospective Nexon EV buyers.

The smaller battery should offer less range. While the current model offers a range of 415km, the ZS EV with smaller battery should offer a range around 350kms. The move will surely bring down the overall cost of the vehicle.
