The Mahindra Bolero has dominated the roads of tier II and tier III cities since its introduction in 2000. Having completed 23 years in India, the SUV is now ready for a generational shift, scheduled for 2026 or 2027. The upcoming Bolero will be built on Mahindra’s all-new platform, codenamed U171, which is slated to be utilized in the brand’s future SUVs and pickup trucks. To develop this new architecture, the indigenous automaker is committing a substantial investment of Rs 2,000 crore.
Earlier reports have indicated that Mahindra & Mahindra aims to “raise the bar” with the new-generation Bolero, leading us to anticipate significant cosmetic enhancements and feature upgrades. In a bid to target a broader customer base, the homegrown automaker will introduce the new Mahindra Bolero with multiple seating configurations.
According to a recent media report, there will be a 5-seater version measuring under 4 meters in length. This new 5-seater Bolero is expected to replace the existing Bolero and Bolero Neo. Additionally, there will be a three-row model designed to accommodate seven adult passengers comfortably. In pursuit of achieving a higher safety rating in the Bharat NCAP crash test, Mahindra may equip the new Bolero 7-seater with a forward-facing third-row seat, similar to what we have seen in the Scorpio N. The new Mahindra Bolero model lineup will also feature an extra-long ‘XL’ variant to rival the Force Citiline 9-seater MUV. Furthermore, the automaker will provide the SUV with multiple wheelbase options, mirroring those available in the Mahindra pickup range. This strategic move is expected to assist the company in achieving competitive pricing while simultaneously reducing manufacturing costs.
