French automaker, Citroen is going through tough phase in the Indian car market. The company had introduced the electric C3 and the C3 Aircross mid-sized SUV in 2023. However, both models failed to create volumes for the French brand. In order to increase sales, Citroen is planning to introduce two all-new models in our market in 2024. Adding to it, the company will introduce the C3 Aircross and the C3 hatchback with automatic gearbox options in the country this year.
The India-spec Citroen C3 hatchback and the C3 Aircross are likely to receive a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. This gearbox is likely to be offered on the current 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 110bhp and 190Nm of torque. The Brazilian-spec model is powered by a 128bhp, 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine with 6-speed manual and a 7-speed CVT automatic gearbox.
Citroen C3X
Citroen is ready to introduce the all-new C3X midsized sedan in the Indian market before the end of 2024. The mid-sized sedan has been spotted testing several times on the Indian roads. The mid-sized sedan comes with a unique design that offers a combination of fastback styling and an SUV-like high ground clearance. It will come as an affordable alternative to the likes of the Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Skoda Slavia and the Volkswagen Virtus.
The new Citroen C3X is based on the heavily localised CMP (Common Modular Platform) platform that underpins the C3, eC3 and the C3 Aircross. Not just platform, the C3X will share the interior components and powertrain with the SUV-sibling. It is likely to be powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox option. Similar to eC3 and the upcoming eC3 Aircross, Citroen is also expected to launch the electric version of the C3X in the country.
Citroen eC3 Aircross (Electric SUV)
Citroen is expected to launch the eC3 Aircross in the Indian market before the end of 2024. It is based on the CMP (Common Modular Platform), which is compatible with both ICE and electric applications. The electric SUV is expected to receive a 50kWh battery pack. The same battery pack is available with the e-C4 X electric and has an electric motor rated at 136bhp and 260Nm. It is claimed to offer a range of 222 miles (357km) on a single charge (WLTP). In order to remain relevant, the electric C3 Aircross should offer a range of above 400km on a single charge.
