MG Rolls Out 1st Unit Of Comet Smart EV From Its Halol Plant

MG Motor India is all set to introduce the much-awaited MG Comet Smart EV in the country on April 19. The production of the Comet EV has been started and the first unit has been rolled out from its Halol based plant in Gujarat. It is based on SAIC’s GSEV platform, which also underpins the Baojun Yep micro electric SUV. 

The GSEV platform is claimed to offer versatility and spaciousness. MG claims that the “GSEV platform is designed with ease of usage in mind, ensuring hassle-free manoeuvring on congested roads and effortless parking capabilities”. SAIC has sold over 1 million vehicles based on the GSEV platform.

Measuring around 2.9 meters in length, the MG Comet EV will be the smallest vehicle in the country. It is essentially the rebadged Wuling Air EV that’s retailed in Indonesia. It is 2974mm in length, 1505mm in width and 1631mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2010mm. 

The MG Comet EV has a tall and boxy stance. The charging port is placed in the middle of the front fascia under the MG branding. It gets dual, vertically stacked headlamps, LED daytime running lamps with integrated turn indicators, a dual-tone front bumper and large rear quarter glass. It rides on small 12-inch steel wheels with wheel covers.

The 2-door micro EV shares the cabin layout and features with the Wuling Air EV. This 4 seater model has a minimalist dashboard layout with dual 10.25-inch screens, sleek air-con vents, rotary knobs for air controls, etc. The small EV comes with a multi-functional two-spoke steering wheel and a large single-piece screen that accommodates a 10.25-inch digital instrument console and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. 

The MG Comet compact electric car comes fitted with a front-axle motor, which draws power from a 17.3kWh battery pack. It is claimed to have an output of 40bhp. The new model is likely to offer a range of around 200-250km. The battery can be fully charged in 8.5 hours.
