MG Records Highest Ever Sales, Bookings In Feb – 4329 Units Sold

MG Motor India has registered its highest ever retail sales and booking numbers in the month of February 2021. The British carmaker managed to sell 4,329 units last month and recorded a growth of 215% opposed to the same month previous year. The 2021 MG ZS EV that comes with a new HT battery,  gathered over 350 bookings in February. It’s more than double its sales figures in January 2021. Despite the supply chain issues, the company gradually increased production of the Gloster SUV in previous month.

Commenting on the sales performance, Rakesh Sidana Director – Sales, MG Motor India, said that the company believes that the electric vehicle (EV) demand will increase with their charging infrastructure which is now available across more cities. It expects to maintain the sales momentum this month as well. Recently, MG rolled out its 50,000th Hector SUV in Vadodara, Gujarat, with an all-women workforce.

In coming months, MG Motor India will enter into the mid-size SUV space to challenge the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Called the MG Astor, the new SUV might be offered with two engine options – 120bhp, 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol and 163bhp, 1.3L turbocharged petrol. Compared to its arch rivals – Creta and Seltos, the upcoming Astor will be more powerful. It’s likely to come with three gearboxes – 6-speed manual (NA petrol only), CVT automatic (NA petrol only) and DCT automatic (turbo-petrol only).

The MG Astor will also be packed with several segment-first features including the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). The list might also include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, powered driver’s seat, a 360 degree camera, automatic AC unit, a panoramic sunroof and cruise control. Compared to the MG ZS EV, the new MG mid-size SUV will carry sharper headlamps with LED DRLs, slightly tweaked bumpers, a more prominent grille, a new set of alloys and revised LED taillamps.
