MG has confirmed its intention to expand its Indian product protfolio with a new electric SUV slated for release during the 2024 festive season. While the British automaker has yet to disclose the name and specifics of the upcoming electric vehicle, it recently secured the ‘Excelor EV’ nameplate in the country. This move ignites speculation about the potential use of this name for MG’s new electric car, which will join the Comet EV and ZS EV in the lineup.
Rumors suggest that MG Motor India might introduce a rebadged version of the Baojun Yep Plus, a 5-door, sub-4 meter electric SUV currently available in the Chinese market. Official details of the forthcoming MG electric car are eagerly anticipated and expected to be unveiled in the near future.
In other developments, MG Motor India is currently testing an updated version of the Gloster SUV, likely to debut in showrooms in the coming months. The updated model is anticipated to feature subtle cosmetic enhancements and upgrades, while retaining its existing engine configuration. Spy images indicate that the SUV will sport newly-designed diamond-cut alloy wheels, along with a redesigned tailgate, tweaked taillamps and rear bumper, repositioned reflectors, and a new taillamp assembly. Some noticeable alterations are also expected at the front end.
The interior of the MG Gloster already boasts numerous advanced features. To enhance its appeal, the carmaker may introduce a redesigned dashboard and new upholstery. The current model of the SUV comes equipped with ADAS tech, a 360-degree parking camera, a 12-speaker sound system, MG’s i-Smart connected car technology, a panoramic sunroof, a powered driver’s seat with heating, ventilation, massage, and memory functions, as well as a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, traction control, and cruise control.
In terms of power, the 2024 MG Gloster facelift is expected to retain the same 2.0L, 4-cylinder turbo diesel and 2.0L twin-turbo diesel engines. The former delivers 163bhp with 375Nm of torque, while the latter generates 218bhp and 480Nm of torque. The on-demand 4WD system with selectable drive modes will be exclusive to the twin-turbo diesel variants, with transmission duties handled by an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
