The British automaker confirmed the MG Air EV India launch for early 2023. According to a media report, the 2-door electric car will make its debut on 5th January. The automaker will announce prices of the MG Hector facelift on the same day. The model will be put up on display at the Delhi Auto Expo that will be held from 13th to 18th January, 2023. MG says that the new Air EV will be premium than the Tata Tiago EV that costs between Rs 8.49 lakh – Rs 11.79 lakh (all, ex-showroom).
For people not in the know, the MG Air EV is essentially the re-badged Wuling Air EV that’s retailed in the Indonesian market. Here, it’s estimated to be priced from Rs 10 lakh onwards. Powertrain system of the new MG electric car will include a battery pack with capacity of around 20kWh-25kWh and a 40bhp, electric motor. It will also feature LFP (lithium iron phosphate) cells that’s known for their lightweight, longer life span, better discharge, no maintenance and charge efficiency.
The new MG 2-door EV will deliver a range of 150km on a full charge in real-world diving conditions. It will come with the FWD (front-wheel drive) system. MG Motor India will locally source the battery pack from Tata AutoComp. The overall length of the EV will be around 2.9 metres and its wheelbase will stand at 2010mm.
The upcoming MG Air EV is a compact, 2-door car with boxy stance. Upfront, it carries squarish headlamp, angular front bumper and slim fog lamp assembly. It has a small hood with a black strip and a light bar in the middle running across its front to ORVMs. The EV comes with 12-inch steel rims with plastic hub caps, a charging port door and small taillamps. Inside, the new Air EV will have a dual 10.25-inch displays – one for the infotainment and one for instrumentation. It will also get connected car tech, keyless entry, automatic climate control and steering mounted controls.
