The tallboy WagonR is a highly sales-driven product for the Maruti Suzuki. Priced between Rs 5.48 lakh and Rs 7.20 lakh, its range-topping ZXI+ start from Rs 6.58 lakh, overlapping with the Ignis Zeta variant that ranges from Rs 6.47 lakh to Rs 6.97 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).
If you’re confused between the two, we’ve got you covered. To help you decide which hatchback to buy, we have compared their aforementioned variants.
Let’s start with the specifications: –

However, it is worth noting that the WagonR comes equipped with DualJet technology with an idle start/stop system that makes it slightly more powerful and fuel-efficient than the Ignis. Speaking of the transmission, both hatches come with the choice of a 5-speed manual as well as an AMT unit. The manual gearbox has slick shifting, supported by a light clutch action. The AMT also does its duty well and doesn’t wobble much if you go hard on the throttle.
Note: The entry-level variants of the Maruti WagonR can also be had with a 1.0-litre DualJet petrol engine that also powers the Alto K10, Celerio and S-Presso. It is around 0.76 kmpl more fuel efficient than the 1.2L WagonR.

Verdict
Despite being more affordable, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis is a better-equipped car here, offering more safety and convenience features. It also gets adjustable rear headrests, push-button start, ISOFIX anchors and height adjustable driver’s seat, which the WagonR doesn’t. And being a more premium offering, it has better styling. However, fuel efficiency, power output and boot space are the only areas in which it falls short of WagonR.
