Mahindra Scorpio N Z6 vs Scorpio Classic S11: Which Variant Offers Better Value?

The Mahindra Scorpio has a massive fan following in the Indian market. Currently, two generations of this SUV are on sale, namely Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N. The former is a reworked version of the old-gen Scorpio that comes in two variants, S and S11, priced at Rs 11.99 lakh and Rs 15.49 lakh (both prices ex-showroom Delhi), respectively. At this price point, its range-topping S11 variant is Rs 50,000 more expensive than the new-generation Scorpio’s mid-spec Z6 diesel variant.

So, let’s see how different or similar these variants are and which offers the better value.

Unlike the Mahindra Scorpio Classic S11, the Scorpio N Z6 diesel variant comes in both manual and automatic guises. The Z6 manual trim is Rs 50,000 more affordable than the Classic’s S11’s sole manual version, while its automatic variant commands a premium of Rs 1.46 lakh over the Classic.

The Scorpio N is longer and wider than the Scorpio Classic and has a more elongated wheelbase, resulting in better cabin space. Scorpio Classic’s long stance, however, gives the illusion that it’s bigger. But Scorpio N’s more balanced size provides it with a stunning look.

*A 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine option is also available with the Scorpio N.

Both the iterations of Mahindra Scorpio are powered by the same mHawk series 2.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. But the Scorpio N has been tuned to generate better engine output. It has abundant power and is quite refined as per diesel standards. It also features three drive modes – Zip, Zap and Zoom, and provides a great sense of stability & confidence, even at high speeds.

The Scorpio Classic misses out on the 4×4 option, whereas the higher-spec variants of Scorpio N get an electronically actuated 4-wheel drive system (4WD) that is very rugged and makes it a capable off-roader. However, the Z6 variant only gets a rear-wheel-drivetrain.

Verdict

The mid-spec Z6 variant of the new Mahindra Scorpio N outperforms the Scorpio Classic in every aspect, providing far better value. The only downside is that you’ll have to experience a long waiting period to get one in your garage. We believe the die-hard Scorpio fans will probably still prefer the Classic model due to its stunning road presence. Another deal-breaker for some might be the option of side-facing seats.
