Several car manufacturers have witnessed sales decline in the first 6 months of this year compared to the first half of 2021. A total of 14,86,309 units of the cars were sold in H1 2022, registering a growth of 17.51 percent against H1 2021. Maruti Suzuki retained the top spot with 7 models in the list of top 10 selling cars of the country. The Maruti WagonR hatchback emerged as India’s top-selling car with sales of 1,13,407 units, which is 19.58 percent higher than the figures of the same duration last year. Maruti’s hatchback, which received an update earlier this year, comes with the 1.0L and 1.2L petrol engines. Prices of the WagonR currently fall in the range of Rs 5.47 lakh – Rs 7.20 lakh (all, ex-showroom). The second and third spots were claimed by Maruti Swift hatchback and Dzire compact sedan respectively. While the former registered sales of 91,177 units, the latter one recorded total sales of 85,929 units.
Tata’s Nexon subcompact SUV grabbed the fourth position with sales of 82,770 units opposed to 46,247 units of H1, 2021. The model recorded YoY growth of 78.97 percent. It comes with the 110bhp, 1.5L diesel and 110bhp, 1.2L petrol engines with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox. With total sales of 74,892 units, 68,922 units and 68,680 units, Maruti’s Baleno, Ertiga and Alto claimed the fifth, sixth and seventh positions respectively. Hyundai Creta stood at number eight with sales of 67,421 units, which is slightly (138 units) higher than the H1 2021. The Tata Punch is the brand’s second top selling car in the last 6 months of this year. The company managed to sell 60,932 units of the mini SUV. Maruti Suzuki’s Eeco stood at the tenth spot with sales of 60,705 units.
