Maruti Swift, Ignis, S-Presso Global NCAP Rating – 1 Star For All

Maruti Suzuki’s three popular cars – Swift, Ignis and S-Presso – have scored a 1 star rating in the latest round of Global NCAP safety tests. The crash test was done under the new safety test protocols, which were implemented in July 2022.

Talking about the highly-popular – Swift, the hatchback scored 19.19 points out of 34 points in adult occupant protection. In the frontal offset and side movable deformable barrier test, it achieved 6.3 points and 12.9 points respectively. The hatch provided good protection to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck. While the Maruti Swift offered weak protection to the driver’s chest, it was adequate for the passenger. The results show marginal protection for driver’s knees and the passenger’s right knee. The Swift’s bodyshell and footwell were rated as unstable, and were not capable of withstand any further loadings. The hatchback secured 16.68 points out of 49 points in child occupant protection. The test Maruti Swift was equipped with dual front airbags, rear Isofix anchorages, seat belt pretensioners and seat belt reminders.

The Maruti Ignis received 1 star rating under the upgraded Global NCAP crash test protocol. The small car scored 16.48 points out of 34in child occupant protection. It provided good protection to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck. Though, it was weak for driver’s chest and adequate for the passenger’s chest. The Ignis offered marginal protection to the driver’s and passenger’s knees. Its body shell was rated as unstable and incapable of withstanding further loadings.

In child occupant protection test, the Maruti Ignis secured 3.86 points out of 49 points. It CRS (child restrain system) installation score stood at 3.86 points, while the dynamic and vehicle assessment score was zero points. Maruti Suzuki’s small car gets Isofix as standard safety fitment, but misses out on the three-point seat belt for the rear middle passenger.

The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso secured 1 star rating for adult occupant protection and zero star rating for child protection. It scored 20.3 points out of 34 points and 3.52 points out of 49 points respectively. In the front off-set impact and the side deformable crash test, it gets 8.19 points and 11.9 points out of maximum 17 points. The mini SUV offered good head protection for the driver and passenger. Though, the chest protection was poor and marginal for the driver and passenger respectively. The Maruti S-Presso devoid of the Isofix anchorage and that’s major reason it lost points in child occupant crash test.
