Maruti Suzuki YFG Mid-Sized SUV Spotted Testing – Launch By Diwali

Maruti Suzuki is preparing an all-new mid-sized SUV, codenamed YFG for the Indian market. The new model is jointly developed by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota. The new Maruti Suzuki YFG mid-sized SUV has been spotted testing again, which shows the front, side and rear profile.

The upcoming Maruti Suzuki’s mid-sized SUV will most probably launch around Diwali. The new model will have two versions – Toyota’s version codenamed D22 and Maruti’s version, codenamed YFG. The new mid-sized SUV will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi based plant.

The Maruti YFG mid-sized SUV will be based on Toyota’s low-cost DNGA (Daihatsu New Generation Architecture) platform. This platform currently underpins multiple Toyota and Daihatsu products including the Toyota Raize, Daihatsu Rocky and the new Toyota Avanza.

The spy images show that the new model will have design similarities with the global Toyota Corolla Cross. The front styling will share styling cues from the Suzuki A-Cross that’s the re-badged Toyota RAV4 in European markets. The SUV features split headlamp set-up with A-Cross inspired LED DRLs positioned on top. The spy images reveal that the mid-sized SUV’s front grille shares similarities with the new Baleno and the Ertiga facelift. It gets an aggressive lower bumper that accommodates a wider air-dam and fog lamp housing.

The spotted model gets multi-spoke alloy wheels, sleek ORVMs with integrated blinkers and sloping roofline. The SUV gets squared-off wheel arches and is likely to have a ground clearance of 200mm.

The interior pictures of the new Maruti YFG mid-sized SUV are yet to be revealed. It is expected to share similarities with the Toyota Corolla Cross, featuring a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity, automatic AC, digital instrument console and electrically adjustable driver’s seat. Previous reports suggest that the new Maruti YFG will come with ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control, lane assist, blind spot monitoring and a collision warning system.

The new Maruti Suzuki YFG mid-sized SUV is likely to be powered by a ‘strong hybrid’ petrol engine, which will be sourced from Toyota. The powertrain will comprise of a petrol engine paired to a small battery. It will allow the new mid-sized SUV to run purely on electric power for limited distances. This will help Maruti YFG to return higher fuel efficiency compared to its petrol counterpart.
