Maruti Suzuki Records Strong Growth In Oct – Over 30,900 UVs Sold

India’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki registered a massive growth of 28.76 per cent in October, 2022. The company registered total sales of 1,40,337 units in the domestic market against 108,991 units of the same duration last year. It recorded total sales of 167,520 units (including exports and commercial vehicles) as opposed to 138,335 units of October 2021. Maruti Suzuki retailed 98,621 units in the mini and compact car segments that include Alto and S-Presso and Baleno, Celerio, Ignis, Dizre, Swift, Wagon R and Tour S.

In the Utility Vehicle (UV) segment, the company managed to sell 30,971 units against 27,081 units. It’s UV product portfolio includes Brezza, Grand Vitara, XL6, Ertiga and S-Cross. The Maruti Ciaz mid-size sedan and Eeco van registered sales of 1,884 units and 8,861 units respectively. With domestic sales of 2,913 units, the Maruti Super Carry witnessed a decline by 23.28 per cent against 3,797 units in October 2021. In fact, the company’s export reduced by 4.09 per cent. Maruti Suzuki exported 20,448 units last month against 21,322 units in October 2021.

Maruti Suzuki at 2023 Auto Expo – Future Plans

The company aims to expand its SUV product portfolio with the launch of new models including the Maruti Baleno Cross, 5-door Jimny and a new C-segment MPV. All three UVs are likely to debut at the 2023 Auto Expo in January. The Baleno Cross (codenamed YTB) will underpin the Heartect platform and it’s likely to share most of its features and components with the Baleno hatch and Brezza SUV.

The Coupe SUV is reported to come with the 1.0L Boosterjet petrol engine making 100bhp and 150Nm. There might also be a 1.2L Dualjet petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox options. The 5-door Jimny will be introduced as a lifestyle off-road SUV to take on the upcoming 5-door Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha. The new Maruti C-segment MPV will be based on the Toyota Innova HyCross that’s due for early 2023.
