Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata To Launch Electric Midsize SUVs

Tata Motors is currently ruling the electric vehicle segment with over 80 percent share in the Indian market. The company is currently selling the Tiago EV, Tigor EV and the Nexon EV in the passenger electric vehicle segment. Mahindra has also entered the EV segment with the XUV400, which has also received positive response from buyers. Moreover, Mahindra will also start launching Born electric SUVs in our market from 2024.

Hyundai is also selling the Kona EV and the Ioniq 5 electric in our market; however, both SUVs are offered as CBUs. The company has started working on locally developed electric vehicles, which is scheduled to be launched sometime in 2025. In fact, the electric version of the Hyundai Creta has been spotted testing in the country.

New Hyundai Creta

Codenamed SU2i EV, the new Hyundai SUV is expected to make its global debut at the 2025 Auto Expo. Expected to be priced around Rs 20 lakh to Rs 30 lakh, the new Hyundai electric SUV will rival the likes of the Mahindra XUV400 EV and the MG ZS EV. Not just Creta EV, Kia will also introduce the electric version of the Seltos compact SUV.

Maruti Suzuki had showcased the eVX electric SUV concept at the 2023 Auto Expo. The company has confirmed that the production version of the SUV will be launched in our market in 2025. Based on the born-EV platform, the new Maruti eVX based EV will be manufactured at the carmaker’s Gujarat-based facility. Measuring 4.3 meters, the new electric SUV has a 2700mm long wheelbase. It will be made available with a 60kWh battery pack, delivering a claimed range of 550km. It could be offered with both 2WD (two-wheel drive) and AWD (all-wheel drive) systems.

Tata Curvv Concept SUV

Tata Motors had showcased the Curvv electric SUV Coupe concept in 2022. The production version of the SUV Coupe will be launched in the country by 2024. It is based on the GEN 2 platform, which is heavily re-engineered ALFA architecture. The SUV Coupe will measure 4.3 meters in length and will ride on a longer wheelbase. It is likely to get a larger 40kWh battery pack with a range over 400kms. It will rival the likes of the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona EV.
