Maruti Suzuki, Honda, Tata Shuts Production Plants Due To Coronavirus

To ensure safety of workers due to rising COVID-19 (CoronaVirus Disease 2019), major automakers including Honda Cars India, Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki have announced to halt production in their respective facilities in the country.

Maruti Suzuki will shut production and office operations at its plants in Gurgaon and Manesar, Haryana. The R&D centre at Rohtak will also remain closed. The duration of this shutdown will depend upon Government policy.

Similarly, Honda Cars India Ltd. informed its associates and suppliers that production operations at both its manufacturing plants in Greater Noida, UP and Tapukara, Rajasthan will be temporarily suspended from 23rd March till 31st March 2020. The company is aiming to restart production on 1st April 2020, however, the final decision will depend upon advice from Government/health authorities and market and supply conditions.

Honda Cars India associates working in corporate offices for all functions will primarily work from home, except for those involved in running essential services that require physical presence or minimal staffing for a few critical activities while abiding by the government regulations.

Speaking on the same, Mr. Gaku Nakanishi, President & CEO, Honda Cars India said, “In these trying times, health, safety, and well-being of our associates, their families, and community at large is of utmost importance. We standby them during this tough phase and urge everyone to take all possible measures to prevent COVID-19 from spreading further. Social distancing is the need of the hour. We can overcome the pandemic if we collectively show restraint, resolution, and responsibility.”

Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra have also announced to temporarily shut down at some of their production plants in India. FCA has also temporarily stopped producing cars at its Ranjangaon facility near Pune.
