The Indian automotive industry is undergoing a significant transformation, witnessing a steady transition towards electric vehicles (EVs). Undeniable evidence of this shift is manifest in the remarkable 40 percent YoY (year-on-year) surge in EV sales during the third quarter of 2023, totaling an impressive 371,214 units. Notably, leading OEMs such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia, MG, Tata, Mahindra, Skoda, and Volkswagen are strategically positioning themselves to capitalize on the burgeoning EV market by introducing a diverse array of innovative products.

Among these industry giants, Maruti Suzuki has been diligently working on an electric SUV, drawing inspiration from the eVX concept unveiled earlier this year. In an exclusive discussion with ICN, CV Raman, the Chief Technical Officer of Maruti Suzuki India, disclosed that the company anticipates launching its inaugural electric vehicle by October or November of 2024.

Inside the cabin, a standout feature will be the dual-screen setup, with one dedicated to the infotainment system and the other serving as the instrument cluster. Enthusiasts can anticipate a yoke-like two-spoke steering wheel, a centrally located rotary dial knob, vertically oriented AC vents, dual-tone upholstery, and ambient lighting. Technological enhancements may include Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and a comprehensive airbag system.

In terms of the powertrain, the Maruti eVX is slated to house a 60kWh battery pack utilizing Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) blade cells, boasting an impressive range of up to 550km on a full charge. Additionally, a smaller battery pack option may be available, ensuring a commendable range of approximately 400km. The electric SUV will be equipped with an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system, enhancing its overall performance and capability.
