The supply constraints of chips has improved gradually over the last few months. India’s largest passenger carmaker, Maruti Suzuki posted output improvement of almost 90% in February 2022. Though, the Russia-Ukraine war has further increased uncertainty in the automobile industry as both countries are major contributors of raw materials to critical engine components and semiconductor chips. Maruti Suzuki’s CNG models and automatic variants are witnessing high waiting period of up 2-3 months. While the Alto 800 commands the shortest waiting period of 2 to 6 weeks, the Ertiga MPV is observing the highest waiting period of 36 to 40 weeks. Talking about the CNG cars, the company had a backlog of over 1.2 lakh CNG vehicles in December 2021. The Ertiga CNG and WagonR CNG variants have a waiting period of up to 36-40 weeks and 14-20 weeks respectively. The waiting period of Eeco and S-Presso CNG stands at 12-16 weeks.

While the automatic variants of the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ertiga command a waiting period of 8-10 weeks, their manual models have a waiting period of 4-10 weeks and 2-10 weeks respectively. Similarly, the WagonR AMT and manual models can be had within time period of 14-16 weeks and 4 – 8 weeks respectively. The Maruti S-Presso AMT and manual variants are observing a waiting period of 10-12 weeks.
Maruti Suzuki’s highly popular Swift hatchback and Dzire compact sedan command a waiting period of 4-10 weeks and 6-12 weeks for the manual variants. The Swift AMT has a waiting period of 12-18 weeks and the Dzire AMT is currently observing a waiting period of 12-14 weeks.
In fresh updates, Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce CNG versions of its Arena and Nexa models. If reports are to be believed, the Baleno, Ciaz, Brezza and Ertiga CNG variants will hit showrooms by the end of 2022.
