Maruti Suzuki Cars, SUVs To Get Expensive From January 2023

Maruti Suzuki, the largest passenger vehicle maker in India, will increase prices across its product lineup from January 2023. The price hike will vary variant and model-wise. It’s a fairly common for automakers to hike prices at the start of the calendar year. The company says that it “continues to witness increased cost pressure driven by overall inflation and recent regulatory requirements. While the company makes maximum effort to reduce cost and partially offset the increase, it has become imperative to pass on some of the impact through a price increase.”

In November 2022, the Indo-Japanese automaker registered total sales of 132,395 units as against 109,726 units during the same month last year. The company managed to sell 18,251 units of the mini cars (including Alto and S-Presso) as opposed to 17,473 units in November 2021. In the compact segment that includes Celerio, Ignis, Swift, Baleno and Dzire, Maruti Suzuki recorded sales of 72,844 units against 57,019 units in the same month previous year. The company retailed 24,574 units of the Grand Vitara, Brezza, Ertiga and S-Cross.

Maruti Suzuki’s Future Plan

The company aims to expand its UV (Utility Vehicle) product portfolio with three new models next year. It will include the Maruti Baleno Cross, 5-door Maruti Jimny and a new three-row MPV based on the Toyota Innova Hycross. All three models will make their first public appearance at the 2023 Delhi Auto Expo in January.

The new Maruti Suzuki MPV will essentially be the re-badged version of the Innova Hycross that will go on sale in January 2023. The model will exclusively available at the company’s premium Nexa dealerships. It will be the most expensive Maruti Suzuki car in the country. The new Maruti MPV is estimated to be priced from Rs 20 lakh for the base model and go up to Rs 30 lakh for the range-topping variant.
