Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door off-road SUV will go on sale in India in the first week of June 2023. The carmaker’s next Nexa offering has attracted over 24,500 bookings till date. Its automatic variants are high in-demand and command a waiting period of up to 8 months, while the manual variants can be had within 6 months after placing the order. Talking about the exterior colours, Kinetic Yellow, Bluish Black and Pearl Arctic White shades are preferred choices among buyers.

The carmaker’s Gurugram based facility will serve as production hub for the new Maruti Jimny, for both domestic and export markets. The Indo-Japanese automaker will manufacture around 1 lakh units per annum including nearly 7,000 units for the domestic market per month. The fully-loaded Alpha trim will be produced on priority basis as its high in demand. It comes with features such as a 9-inch touchscreen SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system, Arkamys music system, cruise control, climate control, keyless start, LED headlamps, fog lamps, auto headlamps, alloy wheels and body coloured door handles.
For safety provision, the lifestyle SUV offers 6 airbags, hill hold assist, electronic stability program, reversing camera, seatbelt pretensioners, Isofix child seat anchorages, brake limited slip differential as standard fitments. The standard kit also includes colour MID display, power windows, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, electrically adjustable wing mirrors and steel wheels.
Under the bonnet, the Maruti Jimny employs a K15B 1.5L petrol engine with mild hybrid tech. The setup delivers a claimed power of 105bhp and 134Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic unit. The SUV has Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system enhancing its off-road capabilities. It includes a manual transfer case and a low-range gearbox with three modes – 2H, 4H and 4L. The upcoming Jimny 5-door will go head-to-head against the Mahindra Thar 5-door that’s due for 2024.
