Maruti Suzuki Jimny is certainly one of the much-awaited new car launches of this year. The lifestyle, off-road SUV is ready to hit roads in the first week June 2023. Prior to its market launch, the carmaker has revealed its features, engine specifications and mileage figures. Powering the new 5-door Maruti Jimny is a 1.5L K15B naturally aspirated petrol engine that can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. The motor, which is boosted with idle start/stop technology, pushes out a peak power of 105bhp at 6,000rpm and a maximum torque of 134.2Nm at 4,000rpm. With manual and automatic transmission, the gasoline unit offers a claimed mileage of 16.94kml and 16.39kmpl respectively. The Maruti Jimny has the brand’s AllGrip Pro AWD (all-wheel drive) system with a manual transfer case and a low range gearbox with three modes – 2WD-high, 4WD-high and 4WD-low.
The Jimny model lineup will be offered in two trims, namely, Zeta and Alpha. The Alpha trim has been packed with some exclusive features such as a 9-inch touchscreen SmarPlay Pro+ infotainment system, Arkamys sound system, automatic climate control, cruise control, keyless start, LED headlamps, fog lamps, auto headlamps, alloy wheels and body-coloured door handles. The standard safety kit of the Jimny SUV includes 6 airbags, electronic stability program, brake limited slip differential, seatbelt pretensioners, reversing camera, Isofix child seat anchorages.
The 5-door Maruti Jimny automatic, which is high-in demand, commands a waiting period of up to 8 months. Its manual variants command a waiting period of up to 6 months. In terms of colours, Pearl Arctic White, Kinetic Yellow and Bluish Black are quite popular among buyers.
The company aims to produce 1 lakh units of the Jimny on annual basis for both domestic and export markets. Around 7,000 units per month will be allotted for the domestic market.
