Maruti Suzuki has confirmed three new SUVs for the 2023 Auto Expo that’s set to begin on 13th January in Great Noida. The lineup includes a sub-4 metre Coupe SUV (Baleno Cross), 5-door Jimny and an electric SUV concept. Besides this, the carmaker will showcase its existing product range and customized and special editions. Talking about the Maruti Jimny 5-door, the SUV has been on test for a long and it’s reported to go on sale by August 2023. Here’re 6 key details that we know so far about the upcoming new Maruti SUV.

Could Be Named Gypsy

Rumour has it that the Indo-Japanese automaker might introduce the 5-door Jimny with the Gypsy nameplate. The Maruti Gypsy, which was discontinued in 2018 with the implementation of the BS6 emission norms, has a massive brand recall value in the country. The model was always admired among hardcore off-road enthusiasts and family buyers.

Lifestyle SUV

The 5-door version of the Jimny will be introduced as a lifestyle SUV in India. It will have off-road capabilities, commanding road presence along with the rugged looks and enough cabin.

K15B Petrol Engine

Official specifications of the upcoming new Maruti Jimny 5-door SUV are yet to be revealed. Though, it’s reported to come with a 1.5L K15B petrol engine sourced from the Ciaz sedan. The unit could be boosted with the mild hybrid technology. Its power and torque outputs stand at 102bhp and 130Nm respectively. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro AWD

The new Maruti SUV will be offered with Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro AWD (all-wheel drive) system, which is more capable than the Grand Vitara’s All Grip AWD. It has a low ratio gear that multiplies engine torque and limits speed. The driver will have options to choose between 2H (two-wheel drive high) and 4H (four-wheel drive high).

Design, Features

The new 5-door Jimny will have a newly-designed front fascia featuring the brand’s signature grille, revised circular headlamps and new bumper. As per leaked documents, the SUV will be 3850mm long, 1645mm wide and 1730mm tall. It will have a wheelbase of 2550mm and a ground clearance of 210mm. Some of its features might include a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, steering mounted controls, etc.

Expected Price & Rivals

The Maruti Jimny 5-door prices are expected to start from Rs 10 lakh and go up to Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will take directly on the upcoming 5-door Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
