Hyundai Ioniq 5 Launch Date Revealed – More Details

Hyundai India has officially announced that the prices of the much-anticipated Ioniq 5 electric crossover will be released at the 2023 Auto Expo. The company had showcased the India-spec Ioniq 5 in December 2022. Interested buyers can book the new electric SUV online or at authorised dealerships by paying a token amount of Rs 1 lakh.

The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 comes as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kit and is being locally assembled in India. It will be priced lower than the Kia EV6 electric SUV, which is launched as a CBU (Completely Built-Up Unit). We expect the new model to cost somewhere between Rs 45 lakh and Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover is based on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which also underpins the Ioniq 6 and the Kia EV6. The Korean automaker will also showcase the Ioniq 6 electric sedan at the 2023 Auto Expo. Dimensionally, the new Ioniq 5 is 4635mm long, 1890mm wide and 1625mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 3000mm.

The new Ioniq 5 electric crossover has a minimalistic interior with a dashboard dominated by a dual floating screen and a 2-spoke steering wheel. It comes with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and digital driver display. In terms of features, the EV gets a 360 degree camera, a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable front seats, connected car tech, six airbags and V2L (Vehicle 2 Load) features. The V2L works as a charging bank and can be used to charge laptops, e-bicycles or other electric vehicles.

The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover also comes with ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) with features like adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keep & departure aid and blind spot monitoring system. The EV will come in 3 different exterior colour options including Matte Gravity Gold, Optic White, and Midnight Black Pearl.

It is expected that the India-spec model will only come in a single RWD long range variant, which is fitted with a 72.6kWh battery pack. The rear axle mounted permanent synchronous motor draws power from the battery, and offers 216bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. It is claimed to offer an ARAI certified range of 631km on a single charge.

The electric crossover is available with a 3 year or unlimited kilometer warranty along with an eight-year or 1,60,000km warranty on battery. Hyundai will offer two complimentary home chargers (3.3kW and 11kW) with one First Connect home visit within 15 days of the EV’s delivery. The electric crossover supports 800V battery technology that offers ultra rapid charging. The battery pack is compatible with the 220kW DC charging that charges it from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.
