Toyota Hyryder CNG Launch Likely At Auto Expo 2023

Japanese automaker, Toyota is participating in the 16th edition of Indian Auto Expo, which will be held for the public from January 13 to 18, 2023. The company will showcase some of its global models including the GR Corolla Hatchback along with hybrid, PHEVs, hydrogen powered cars and electric vehicles. Toyota could also use this opportunity to launch the new Toyota Hyryder CNG.

Interested buyers can book the new Toyota Hyryder CNG online or at authorised Toyota dealership by paying a token amount of Rs 25,000. Maruti Suzuki could also launch the CNG version of the Grand Vitara at the Auto Expo 2023. These two models are based on Suzuki’s Global-C platform and are manufactured at Toyota’s Bidadi based plant.

The Toyota Hyryder CNG will be the first CNG-powered model in the midsize SUV segment. The regular model is available with two engine options including Suzuki’s 1.5L NA petrol with a mild hybrid tech and a 1.5L petrol with Toyota’s strong hybrid tech. The CNG kit will be offered with the Toyota Hyryder’s Maruti-sourced 1.5-litre K15C, 4-cylinder engine. This powertrain currently powers the Ertiga and the XL6 CNG.

In the CNG mode, the powertrain produces 88bhp of power and 121.5Nm of torque. In the petrol mode, this engine churns out 101bhp and 137Nm of torque. The Hyryder CNG will only be offered with the 5-speed manual gearbox. It is claimed to offer a certified fuel economy of 26.10km/kg. While powering the XL6, this engine with CNG kit offers a mileage of 26.32km/kg.

The CNG version will come on the mid-spec S and G trims of the standard SUV. In terms of features, the Toyota Hyryder G trim gets a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car tech, full-LED headlamp, ambient interior lighting, 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) and others. The SUV rides on 17-inch alloy wheels.
