Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Kia Carens are two top-selling MPVs in the country. In October 2022, the Indo-Japanese automaker managed to sell 10,494 units of the Ertiga and Kia retailed 5,479 units of the Carnes. Buyers can get the Ertiga deliveries within 1-2 months in New Delhi and Mumbai, whereas the Carens has a waiting period of 3 months. In Chennai, Maruti Suzuki’s MPV commands a waiting period of 1-1.5 months and Kia’s compact MPV is observing a waiting period of 4 months.
The Kia Carens has a maximum waiting period of 6 months in Bengaluru and the Ertiga commands a waiting period of 1.5 month in the same city. Talking about the Maruti Ertiga, the MPV received a mid-life update earlier this year. The model comes with a 1.5L Dualjet engine boosted with the start-stop technology. The motor pushes out a peak power of 103bhp and 136.8Nm of torque. It can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic with paddleshifters. The company says that the new Ertiga offers an impressive mileage of 20.51kmpl with manual gearbox and 20.30kmpl with automatic transmission.
The Kia Carnes has been offered with three powertrain options – a 115bhp, 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol, a 140bhp, 1.4L turbo petrol and a 115bhp, 1.5L diesel. All three motors are available a 6-speed manual gearbox. The MPV is also available with the 7-speed DCT automatic and 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox options. The Kia Carens petrol and diesel variants promise fuel efficiency of 16.5kmpl and 21.5kmpl respectively.
