Maruti Suzuki has recently added a new CNG-powered MPV in its line-up in the form of XL6. It is the first CNG people mover for Nexa that uses the same powertrain as the Ertiga. However, being a more premium offering, the XL6 CNG is around Rs 70,000 more expensive than the Ertiga’s ZXi CNG variant. But what are the actual differences between them? Here’s take a look.
Design Changes
- Despite being based on the same platform, the Maruti Suzuki XL6 and Ertiga look different from each other.
- For starters, the XL6 gets differently-styled chrome grille, LED headlamps, revised bumpers and a prominent blacked-out cladding on the lower section of the MPV. It also features roof rails and bigger alloy wheels with a wider section of tyres (195mm), compared with the 185mm tyre size in the Ertiga. The XL6 also gets a dual-tone paint option which is missing in the Ertiga. With all these changes, the XL6 is around 50mm longer and 10mm wider than the Ertiga.
- Inside, the two MPVs feature similar dashboard designs. However, the Ertiga sports a dual-tone scheme with a teak-wood finish on the dash, while the XL6 gets an all-black theme with a stone finish on the centre trim and silver accents on the steering wheel & dashboard.
- There are three rows of seating for passengers in both MPVs. But with two captain chairs in the middle row, the XL6 can accommodate up to 6 passengers, while the Ertiga can seat up to 7 people.
Powertrain
Both the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and XL6 are powered by the same 1.5-litre K15C DualJet petrol engine that makes 88PS and 121.5Nm when running in CNG mode. Their claimed fuel efficiency also stands at around 26km/kg.

Verdict
The XL6 is for those looking for a more premium version of the Ertiga CNG and aren’t concerned about shelling out a bit extra for fancy features. Additionally, the captain seats will offer a better backseat experience.
