Maruti Baleno Becomes India’s Top-Selling Car; Beats Nexon, Alto

In November 2022, Maruti Suzuki Baleno hatchback emerged as the top-selling car in the country. The Indo-Japanese automaker retailed a total of 20,945 units of the Baleno as against 9,931 units during the same month last year. It registered a YoY sales growth of 110.91 percent. Interestingly, the Maruti Baleno outnumbered the Tata Nexon, Alto, Swift and WagonR that recorded sales of 15,871 units, 15,663 units and 15,153 units respectively.

Earlier this year, the carmaker introduced the updated version of the Maruti Baleno in four trims – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. In October 2022, the hatchback model lineup gets two CNG variants priced at Rs 8.28 lakh (Delta) and Rs 9.21 lakh (Zeta). The new Baleno comes with a 1.2L, 4-cylinder Dualjet K12N petrol engine and two gearbox options – 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT. The motor pushes out a peak power of 90bhp and delivers a claimed mileage of 22.35kmpl (MT) and 22.94kmpl (AMT).

Most of the updates have been made to its interior. The new Maruti Baleno offers a 9.0-inch SmartPlay Pro+ free-standing touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and Amazon Alexa support, voice command support and ‘Suzuki Connect’ connected car tech. The hatch also gets an Arkamys surround sound system, 360 degree camera, Heads-up display (HUD), auto dimming IRVM, tilt and telescopic steering adjustment, automatic climate control, keyless entry and go, a newly-designed instrument cluster, new front seats and switchgear for climate control.

The top-end variant comes with the new, three-layered dashboard with black top, silver accent in the middle and dark blue finish at the bottom. The hatchback model lineup is available in 6 exterior colour options, namely, Grandeur Grey, Arctic White, Opulent Red, Splendid Silver, Luxe Beige and Nexa Blue. On the exterior, the 2022 Maruti Baleno gets a newly-designed grille with silver accent, new wraparound headlamps, revised bumpers, new fog lamp assembly, new 16-inch alloy wheels and C-shaped LED taillamps.
