Mahindra & Mahindra, the homegrown UV maker has recently launched the new XUV700 5-seater SUV at an aggressive price tag of 11.99 lakh. The company will introduce the 7-seater version of the SUV in the month of September or early October this year. The 5-seater XUV700 will rival the Tata Harrier, MG Hector and the mid variants of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Skoda Kushaq. The 5-seater XUV700 is available in 4 variants – MX Petrol, MX Diesel, AdrenoX AX3 petrol ad AdrenoX AX5 petrol. The Harrier is offered in 6 trim levels – XE, XM, XT, XT+, XZ and XZ+. While the XUV700 is offered in both petrol and diesel guise, the Harrier is available in diesel version only. The XUV700 MX Diesel is priced at Rs 12.49 lakh, while the Harrier diesel is priced between Rs 14.39 lakh and Rs 21.09 lakh. The base XUV700 is around 1.90 lakh cheaper than the Harrier base.
Mahindra will soon add a more powerful diesel version of the 7-seater SUV in the next couple of months. Adding to it, the SUV will also receive automatic gearbox option.

In terms of proportions, the new Mahindra XUV700 is around 97mm longer than the Tata Harrier; however, later is 4mm wider. The XUV700 is 49mm taller, which should help in offering an airy cabin. The wheelbase of the XUV700 is 9mm longer than the Harrier, which will increase the cabin space.

Mahindra XUV700 Features – The XUV7000 is one of the most feature-loaded SUVs in its segment, The base MX variant comes equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 7-inch digital instrument console, Android Auto, smart door handles, LED tail-lamps, multi-functional steering wheel, and 17-inch steel wheels.
The mid-level and high-end variants get 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment, a 10.25-inch digital instrument console, Amazon Alexa built-in, Wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, AndrenoX Connect with 60+ Connected features, 6-speaker & sound staging, LED DRL & Front fog lamp and 17-inch diamond cut alloys. The AX5 trim also gets panoramic sunroof, curtain airbags, LED clear-view headlamps, sequential turn indicators and cornering lamps.
Tata Harrier Features – The Harrier also gets most of the features available in the 5-seater XUV700. The XUV700 5-seater is available with a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that produces 155bhp of power and 360Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox. In the next few weeks, the 5-seater model will also get a more powerful 185bhp, 2.2L diesel engine with manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox. An AWD version could also join the line-up.
The SUV is also available with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 200PS of power and 380Nm of torque. It is also offered with a single 6-speed manual gearbox. However, an automatic version will also join the line-up.
Tata Harrier is available in a single 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, which is sourced from FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobile). This engine churns out 170bhp of power and 350NM of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
Verdicts
Both SUVs get sporty design and high-end features. However, the XUV700 is more feature-loaded and slightly bigger than the Tata Harrier. Adding to it, the XUV700 5-seater is priced aggressively and is significantly cheaper than the Harrier. With more powerful version coming in the next few weeks, the XUV700 could become the best-selling model in its league.
