Mahindra XUV400 Electric Will Look Different From The XUV300

Mahindra has confirmed that the new electric SUV based on the XUV300 platform will be launched in the first quarter of 2023, most probably in January. The company has started testing the new model on the Indian roads. If reports are to be believed, the new SUV will be called the new Mahindra XUV400 EV.

The spy images reveal that the Mahindra XUV400 Electric will look significantly different from the original XUV300 sub-4 meter SUV. The new XUV400 will measure about 4.2 meters in length, as the sub-4 meter rule for subsidy benefits are not applicable to electric vehicles.

The upcoming Mahindra XUV400 will come with a more rounded profile instead of relatively flatter and boxy profile of the XUV300 SUV. The SUV will have a completely re-designed rear design. It features a newly design tailgate and bumper design, while the tail-lamp design has also been completely revised.

Spy images reveal that the charging slot is placed on the front fender, which is different from the one offered in the regular electric cars. The new model will share most of the design highlights from the eXUV300 concept, which was unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo. The SUV will have closed front grille, differently styled bumpers, new headlamps and alloy wheels.

The upcoming Mahindra XUV400 electric SUV will be the brand’s first production model to be based on Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture (MESMA). It is likely to come with 350V and 380V powertrains and two battery pack options. The smaller capacity battery is likely to offer a range around 300-350km and will rival the Nexon EV. The larger capacity battery with high range will challenge the Nexon EV Max, Hyundai Kona EV and the MG ZS EV.

Mahindra will also launch the eKUV100 micro electric SUV before the end of this year. Adding to it, the company will showcase 3 new electric SUV concepts on August 15, 2022. These concepts will preview the design directions & technology for the future electric SUVs.
